The current vice admirals have been undermined by Oda in my opinion. During Roger's time, or at least a short while after it, the vice admirals were a forced to be considered. Afterall, the original admirals were part of it with their overpowered logia devil fruits. In contrast, the current vice admirals are being defeated easily by the likes of Sabo, or even Bartolomeo. They also had no important role in the Marineford war.
This lead me to expecting a stronger group of vice admirals in the future.
