If you didn't watch Star Wars : Rogue One trailer and Star Wars VII, do it before reading this thread.
At the end of the trailer, we can see Star Wars : Rogue One main character Jyn Erso in an imperial soldier suit. That immediately raised in my mind the following question :

After some days I wasn't able to find any real clue, but these are some elements that could support my theory.
- Jyn's age in the new trilogy
Rogue One takes place some time before episode IV, and episode VII takes place 30 years after episode VI. So if Jyn was 20 in Rogue One and if she was still alive in Star Wars VII, she would be 50-55 in the new trilogy, so she would still be able to fight.
- If captain Phasma's past is to be developped, I think a spin-off would be the best solution to do it : it would be weird if that was done in SW VIII or SW IX since she's not among the main cast.
- It would be weird to introduce a new character just for one movie. It's not how the Star Wars universe works : connections should exist between Rogue One characters and other movies characters, not only between the plots. That makes some people think that Jyn is Rey's mother, but from what we saw in the trailer, I find my theory is more plausible (that's just my opinion).
