Quirkless People - Discussion

A rather general thread.

In a manga full of super powers called quirks, heroes are the center of attention. But on the other side of the power ladder, one person out of five in the world was born quirkless.

Think about it: how would you feel if you were among those people?
Personally, I would be a little bit frustrated. Wouldn't you?

I'll start with the official statistic: 20%. It's huge, very huge. And yet, we haven't seen that many quirkless people since the beginning of the series (even in Midoriya's elementary school). True, the manga focuses on heroes. But I've always wondered why 20% of the world population was needed to be quirkless for the plot. In my opinion, Midoriya's story would be even better if the fact of being quirkless was really something exceptional, shared by almost nobody on the planet. I think that such a high number is meaningful.

Then, let's remember about the beginning of the series, before Midoriya met All Might. At this time, he was despised by his comrades (especially Bakugou) for this.

I think that the other quirkless people could be victims of such discrimination, and I think it could be an interesting theme to deal with. What can heroes - who know nothing about this kind of suffering - do to prevent this? As one of the very rare (future) heroes who experienced this, Deku could be a symbol for all those people.

Another topic, more personal than social, would be how can someone accept themselves as they are. I can imagine a scientific advance allowing one to artificially acquire a quirk (the opposite of what we saw in X-Men III), and the consequences of such a device's existence.

1) How would you feel if you were born among the 20% quirkless people? Do you think that they live as happily as non-heroes quirk-wielders?

2) Will quirkless people be put in the spotlight at some point?

3) What do you think about the possibility of artificially acquiring a quirk? Will it happen?
