Pudding's Devil Fruit - Past And Future Usage

Pudding is the wielder of the Memo Memo no mi, having the ability to alter and modify memories of any human being. This was introduced through the modification of Reiju's memories with the cutting and editing of her memories by Pudding herself in Chapter 851. For all we as audience know, such situations may have happened in the past already and we are none the wiser.


Clearly, this devil fruit could lead to realities that may have occurred and changed accordingly. The following are a few ideas how Pudding's Devil Fruit could have altered the course of the arc:

Spoiler: 1. Lola's View of Big Mom's Loving Nature

1. One such scenario could be Lola's memory of Big Mom. What I'm talking about is the possibility that Lola's memories were altered to the point of believing that Big Mom was actually a nice and loving person, someone who would want to be notified of her well-being and that she would be of genuine help to the strawhats if they asked her for help.

That would explain why Big Mom, who actually loathes Lola, would be infuriated by Lola's words to her. If Pudding truly modified Lola's memories into believing Big Mom was a loving mom, Lola would have said those words to Nami with the true intention of her loving Mom actually helping the strawhats rather than be infuriated with them through the delivery of the message.

Spoiler: 2. Big Mom's View of Lola's Failed Marriage

2. On the same line of thought, maybe Pudding altered the memories of Big Mom herself rather than Lola. Pudding might have been jealous of her sister and in order to get her sister out of the way, she could have modified Big Mom's memories leading Big Mom (initially a loving mum to her favourite daughter Lola) to hate her.

Possibly, the version of events leading to Big Mom's failed wedding between Lola and her groom was not Lola's fault but was heavily modified by Pudding herself. It's a highly complex scenario however as Lola still wanted to find her own husband not one that was forced upon her. It would however sort of explain Pudding's flashbacks to Lola and the way both Lola and Big Mom think of each other in respectively a positive and negative manner.

3. Sanji's first encounter and interaction with Pudding lead to a lot of speculation as to whether the meeting actually happened or not.

Taking the devil fruit into account, this could be explained as a situation that actually happened in the past. However, Sanji's memories might have been modified, cut and edited in some way where the meeting (how it is revealed to us) never really happened thus explaining the blacked out faces in a flashback (as the flashback in reality was modified to the point where it never happened).

Spoiler: 4. Sanji's only Ray of Hope

There's also the possibility that Sanji's memory was modified to consider Pudding as Sanji's only ray of hope, pushing aside all the strawhats. In fact, he even cooks for the strawhats and is left somewhat baffled by his cooking as if he didn't know he just cooked a meal for all the strawhats.

Maybe his memories of them were altered to the point where Pudding WAS his only ray of hope hence explaining why at no point did he consider the strawhats as possibly aiding him in the situation.

Obviously, the devil fruit could be used in the future to deal with other situations. Some ideas might include:

1. Removal of the Strawhats from the memories of Big Mom
2. Removal of the Strawhats from the memory of a Strawhat
3. Removal of Sanji from the memories of the Vinsmokes
4. Alteration of Big Mom's plans regarding the red wedding etc.
