In short cheating, just like how Ouki was stabbed in the shot in the back with an arrow while dueling or how Ryofui kidnapped one of the Zhao king's male concubines in exchange for Riboku.Playing dirty seems like the most effective way to beat states that have strong generals and noteworthy leaders.
Beating guys like Riboku will cost the Qin countless soldiers but for example takin advantage of the Zhao king's ineptitude to beat Riboku would guarantee a win or using your spies to incite political strife in other states, especially in states that don't have a stable leadership.
Straight up battles are good and all but winning with fewer casualties with some underhanded methods sounds better although morally it might be wrong.
An example of someone who employs such dirty methods would be Kanki and although they are beyond depraved his army usually suffers the least casualties but makes good gains.
Do you think using underhanded methods against other states would work?
