According to Eldian mythology, 1820 years ago Ymir Fritz made a contract with the "devil'' and in return received the power of the titans.After her death she split her soul into nine parts who were called the nine titans who with their power built the Eldian Empire.
In this series there exists someone who shares the same name as her, Ymir and although her current status is unknown and her past is often shrouded in mystery.There are some actions she's done in that seems to hint there might be a connection with her and this Ymir in the past.
Ymir can read the ancient letters, something no one in this series has been shown able to do.
Secondly would be something she's said before;
" I thought it would've been better if I'd never been born. The world hated me just for existing. To bring happiness to many people...I died. But—when I did, I wished for something from the bottom of my heart. If I could be born again...I wanted to live my next life for no one but myself..I wished...so hard."
From this statement were we to assume that the two Ymir's are one and the same or a reincarnation of the other, would it make sense?Her death did in fact bring happiness to the Eldians having acquired the shifter powers but would they have in fact viewed her that way when she was alive,having only the power to herself would she not be hated and feared? Were we to remember Krista previous fake persona of Historia of a girl who only thought of others was made from reading about Ymir Fritz's legend of kindness and sacrifice and yet how the current Ymir thinks only of herself before others would her wish not have been fulfilled.
